Wanna FEEL Happy, Mama?
I know you, Mama. You keep having those days when you just don’t “feel” happy. You try to pull yourself out of this “funk” you’re in, but just can’t seem to get out of it. I know how you feel. I have definitely been there. More times than I care to count. Wanna feel happy, Mama? I’m here to help!
Let me first assure you that you’re not alone. Depression and anxiety overtake the best of us sometimes. The trick to being happy is actually knowing where to find the tools you need to overcome it. Here are a few tips I use to help me achieve happiness when I’m feeling a little down in the dumps! You may be surprised at how easy it really is.
1. Go for a walk.
As I’m sure you already know, taking a walk each day is a great way to get some exercise in. It’s especially great if you’re feeling blue. Try getting out in nature for your walk if you can. There’s just something so calming about the sounds of nature and the beautiful plants on our planet. Ahh.. all the different colors, that fresh smelling country air, the sounds of birds and squirrels rustling through the trees. Enjoy your time, Mama. You deserve it!
2. Listen to quality music.
Girl.. remember when you were young and would crank up your music so loud you couldn’t even hear yourself think? Those were the days, right? Do that. Find some “oldies” music that you used to love and crank it up! Get lost in the moment and enjoy the amazing happiness it brings you.
3. Open yourself to discovering something new through personal development.
Find a great personal development book. It can be about anything at all. Spend a few minutes each day reading it, preferably first thing in the morning. It’s so important to start your day with a positive mindset. Also, read an actual book, not an article online. Unplug while you’re doing this. You will be surprised and learn a ton about yourself too!
4. Find something to laugh at.
Laughter is one of the best ways to lift your spirits. Find a humorous book, or watch a comedy. Even better, try to learn a few new jokes and tell them to others. That’s always fun!
5. Simple breathing meditation.
Breathing meditation is a great exercise that you can do anywhere. Simply allow yourself to sit comfortably with your back straight. Now close your eyes and become aware of the flow of air into and out of your nostrils. That’s all there is to it. Do this for 10-15 minutes. Notice how pleasantly surprised you can be at how you feel afterward.
6. Doodling for the fun of it.
Most people can remember when they were young and used to doodle for hours. Kids love drawing silly little pictures. Drawing is not just for kids or artists. Whoever you are get some pens, pencils, crayons or whatever you have and just draw for the fun of it. Notice how your state of mind shifts.
7. Think of others less fortunate.
The fact that you are reading this article suggests that you are probably much better off than most people on this planet. At times this may be hard to believe, but if you can read and have access to the internet, just those two things alone means you are better off than most people in the world. There are many human beings that barely have access to the basics of survival. There are people in lots of pain. Allow your compassion for them to grow.
These 7 things all seem pretty easy, right? In fact, it may be things you already knew and had just forgotten. Sometimes you just need a little reminder of how easy it is to bring your mind back to a state of happiness. Practice them daily or as needed. You can also use some of these concepts to help your kiddos when they are not themselves.
